Help for a Depressed Christian

It is a fact that there are many depressed Christians who are in the battle of their lives, we recently received an email from a single mother who is at the end of her rope, she has 2 teenage boys who are hanging out with the wrong crowd who have absolutely no intentions of living the spiritual life.  She is handling a lot of financial pressure and is seeking help, but help for a depressed Christian is not so easily found.

There are so many churches which are not meeting the needs of the worshiper; there is one very large congregation that a friend spoke of where a meeting with the pastor is close to impossible, the people are often direct to speak with a bishop or an elder. This is not to say that a pastor has an answer any better than an elder or another person in the church but when you cannot meet with the Pastor it is not a good sign. The point of the matter is that there exist many who love God but are not finding help for their depressed condition. Each situation is different, depression can last a very long time or it can be a sudden event that triggers the crisis; the bottom line is that depression hurts and we need something to lift us from our pit.

In the case of the Mother with the teen boys this is sadly a common situation today, women carrying the burden of bread winner and father of the house. There are so many women who are suffering form depression it is almost an epidemic, in a study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), women are 70 percent more likely to suffer from depression than men during the course of their lifetimes.

I am frequently in churches and it is often a very sad scene to behold, 80% of the congregations usually consist of women, often these women travel alone at night to attend service. The men are absent. Raising 2 boys who are more interested in ungodly things that concern teenagers is not easy on a single mother. Help for a depressed Christian is not as easily found as one would think.  To the depressed, Never give up.
