Christian Depression as Man destroys Ten Commandments plaque

Christian depression is real, there are many who love God but who are going through the emotional battle of their life. The sad fact of the matter is that those who are suffering emotionally are not always getting the help that they need, a lack of real pastoral support and of godly men in the pulpit are making things worst. In a very bizarre story which happened last week, a man who professes to be a Christian, literally drove his car into a Ten Commandments monument and destroyed it.

Depression and Christianity

There are many people who try to follow after God but are going through severe difficulties, it is at these times when the prevalence of TV ministers are of no help. There has been a proliferation of TV preachers and ministers who beam their messages into the homes of millions of people; yet these men are mainly actors. Often believers are mislead by a television ministry which is real focused on receiving money donations, TV ministers can never provide the spiritual support that believers truly need. Sadly, the majority in the United States are getting their spiritual messages from Christian Television which is really a money making enterprise using the name of Christ to promote their shows.

We don’t know all the reasons behind the man’s bizarre behavior, driving a car into the biblical monument is a clear sign of a person dissatisfied (from a religious perspective) with religion.   Official in Oklahoma say the man suffers from mental health issues.

The mother of the man was interviewed for local news, she says that her son had a work related accident which led him down a road of “breakdowns”

“The one thing that is foremost in his mind, his religion, is the thing he takes it out on. A statue of the 10 Commandments would be something that would attract him. Anyone who knows Michael, knows he loves his God. Right now, everyone is praying for him.”

Despite the fact that this man is mentally ill does not take away the fact that the story highlights a very important fact, many believe the message of God but are still hurting. The American churches have missed the mark, the good time money making gospel which is pimped into the homes of millions of people is not the original message of Jesus. People who are suffering or who are depressed are often shunned by the churches, the ministers don’t like to deal with these problems.

While there are good ministers the sad fact of the matter is that Christian depression is not being addressed, the people in the pulpit today are not able to give the support that so many people truly need.  Unfortunately, anyone can be the minister today and this is why the flock is not being fed.

The mother of the emotionally disturbed man admitted she had no clues her son was in trouble, sadly, this is a familiar situation today

Some many are lost in a sad American Christianity.

What is Christianity and can it be saved?

What is Christianity is a question that Christians should start to ask themselves. What are the true sets of beliefs which embody this religion? It may be a bit of a surprise to believers today but what we call modern day Christianity is far removed from its original Jewish roots. Did the United States and its love of money and materialism transform the religion into cheap con game?  Is American Christianity now a TV show where the slickest preachers make the most money? Is it our obsession with good looking people which causes us to throw our faith at the new tight jeans wearing ministers with prefect hair?

WWJD ?

A popular slogan (and button) a few years ago was “What Would Jesus Do (WWJD)? What WWJD really meant was

“What would Jesus do in any particular situation”, this is actually a very thought provoking slogan.

I would like to ask our many readers what Jesus would say about modern day Christianity. Would Jesus be please with millionaire ministers who use private jets? Would he be pleased with ministers who only send out “money messages” yet never give a dime back to the poor in their congregations who ask for help?

Despite the fact that modern day ministers like to spread the message that the apostles were not poor the fact of the matter is that they were dirt poor!

Poverty and despair was the common life of a first century believer, after the resurrection the apostles lived with only one hope, that they would see the Messiah again in their lifetime. There were no messages to get rich, just a hope to see the Messiah.

The Pimping of the Gospel

The modern day church has dropped the ball; the poor, depressed and hurting are not being served. An older man recently commented to me

“It is best to find a very small, poor store front church; they are the only true churches left”

The poor ministers who open these small store churches serve a small congregation that has almost no money; the ministers are usually dirt poor yet they open the doors to serve the poor every week. The neighborhoods were the poor churches reside are usually dangerous yet the doors are open to the hurting.

Television ministers are in the game for big ratings and big money, avoid these men at all cost. Television ministries come with big production money and little bible quotes which equal disaster for the believers.

Once the make up goes on and the cameras rolls it is no longer about Christianity, it is about Hollywood, run far away from the money gospel in the United States.

The dwindling numbers of “Christians” who believe the Gospel

A new survey has shocked many in religious circles, apparently there are almost 40% of people who describe themselves as “Christian” but who live a totally secular lifestyle. These “believers” attend no church services and say they have very little if any connection at all to religion. What is behind this growing trend of churchless-ness? The dwindling numbers of people who actually follow any of the doctrine of Christianity has many very surprised.

Religion researcher David Kinnaman who did the survey expected to find the typical 20% of people who had no religious connection but what he found was that almost 40% of people surveyed in the United States describe themselves as not apart of any religion at all, what is amazing is that most of these people say that when asked they usually state that they are Christian.

 How to understand the trend

To understand the trend we have to see that millions of people doubt the beliefs of Christianity and are instead labeling themselves “Christian” by tradition. These people may put up a Christmas tree or attend an Easter service but their beliefs are from tradition not faith. What is behind the growing secularism in the United States? While Christians are being tortured in many parts of the world the West is losing the faith.  In Europe Christianity is mainly a tradition, a belief in God is not a reality in the lives of Europeans, this is spreads in the USA. I have lived in Europe for many years and any admission to believe in God is often met by cynicism or even anger.

How much did the American mega TV ministers who have pumped a gospel of “getting rich” play a part in the lack of faith in the Americans? A gospel based on money has made a lot of American Ministers rich, yet they will have to give an account for every dollar they extracted from the flock.  The original gospel of Jesus Christ has been reduced to slick hair Americans speaking on behalf of the Middle East born Messiah.  If these men truly feared God they would never put their faces on TV but they have no fear of God. The pollution of the American pulpit by those who call themselves minister may be playing a part in the dwindling numbers of Americans who are turned off to religion.

Christian Depression is real.

Christian depression, genocide and money ministers

Sadly, Christianity is a shadow of what it once was in the United States, Christian depression is on the rise all over the world but you would never know it if you watched the television ministers. In the minds of these ministers life is a continual party of blessing. Once American Christianity became a “television show” where anyone with nice teeth was allowed in the pulpit the lure of big money replaced the gospel.

It may come as a surprise to those who profess to be followers of Christ in the United States but the faithful in the Middle East are experiencing bombing, torture and loss of life for Christ in parts of the Middle East.  In an amazing article in the Columbus dispatch it was stated that “Christianity is all but ended in the Middle East”.  What has happened to the believers is nothing short of genocide, from 3 million people down to 300,000 and shrinking fast. Those interviewed said they will not go back.

There are Christians today who are unsure of where they are going to live or even what they will eat, this is also true in the United States.  Christian depression is real but you would be very hard pressed to find any ministers speaking about this in the pulpit; the typical American message is about blessings. The typical message from too many of our ministers is how to bend God’s arm for a better job or maybe a newer car.

Christianity in the United States does not resemble anything of the original gospel.

What happened to this humble religion which started with a few scared men hiding in an upper room after the crucifixion of their leader?  Christian depression is real, it lives in the hearts of the single mothers dragging their little ones to church, and it lives in the homeless man sitting in the back of the church begging God for repentance. The television has ruined the religion, the pimping of the flock with messages of getting rich is nothing short of blasphemy. The depressed and hurting are left to fend for themselves in American Christianity.

Why not stop right now, not later, and send a prayer to those who had their churches destroyed in the Middle East?

Many are now homeless; it may be the prayer God has been waiting to hear from you.

Help for a Depressed Christian

It is a fact that there are many depressed Christians who are in the battle of their lives, we recently received an email from a single mother who is at the end of her rope, she has 2 teenage boys who are hanging out with the wrong crowd who have absolutely no intentions of living the spiritual life.  She is handling a lot of financial pressure and is seeking help, but help for a depressed Christian is not so easily found.

There are so many churches which are not meeting the needs of the worshiper; there is one very large congregation that a friend spoke of where a meeting with the pastor is close to impossible, the people are often direct to speak with a bishop or an elder. This is not to say that a pastor has an answer any better than an elder or another person in the church but when you cannot meet with the Pastor it is not a good sign. The point of the matter is that there exist many who love God but are not finding help for their depressed condition. Each situation is different, depression can last a very long time or it can be a sudden event that triggers the crisis; the bottom line is that depression hurts and we need something to lift us from our pit.

In the case of the Mother with the teen boys this is sadly a common situation today, women carrying the burden of bread winner and father of the house. There are so many women who are suffering form depression it is almost an epidemic, in a study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), women are 70 percent more likely to suffer from depression than men during the course of their lifetimes.

I am frequently in churches and it is often a very sad scene to behold, 80% of the congregations usually consist of women, often these women travel alone at night to attend service. The men are absent. Raising 2 boys who are more interested in ungodly things that concern teenagers is not easy on a single mother. Help for a depressed Christian is not as easily found as one would think.  To the depressed, Never give up.

Depression and the Christian

There comes a time in the Christian walk when depression may arrive at the door, for many it is the ultimate contradict, “How should Godly person deal with sadness?”  For many the concept of being depressed and being a follower of God causes a dilemma, how can faith in the Creator not be enough?  It is quite clear that Christian depression is real but few are really able to talk about it or admit it exists.

We are living in difficult times, the world is changing fast and it seems that we really are really just hanging on. At times we want to get off the highway of life and take a long pause.  What do you do in a world that is moving at a rapid pace and you discover you are not in sync with the speed? We must face the fact that a depressed mood can be very overpowering regardless of your belief in God. Where is God when your world is simply not happy?  There are times when quoting bible verses just do not help.  There are millions of believers who are suffering inside with loneliness, sadness and a very powerful depression, at these dark times we need more.  Are the kids stressing you out, is the lack of a good mate making you feel like you are doing this walk alone? Christian Depression is very real.

A Loneliness not spoken of very often

There are many believers who are lonely, it is very possible to attend church and be completely lonely, and this is often the case in large congregations. In smaller congregations it is also possible to have friends who simply do not that a person is depressed or lonely.

When did the believer lose the right to be depressed, lonely or sad? Why are we not allowed to express our fears, failures and doubts? Too many believers are forced to play church, to be perfectly honest; we fake it. For too many of us the face that we wear at church does not reveal what is really going on inside of us.

Christian Depression in the face of a false happiness gospel

Christian Depression is real but it would be very difficult to find this subject ever addressed by minister’s in the United States due to a television happiness gospel which has polluted the airwaves. There are big name ministers who have pumped out a gospel which Jesus never would have recognized and sadly it is the followers who are suffering.  Christian depression is a subject that few ministers will want to touch in the USA because it exposes the lie of many of the American TV preachers.

When Billy Graham first used the media to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ it had a very unique power, the pure word of God was able to reach the four corners of the global, and it was good. Never before did we have the ability to hear the gospel right in our living rooms, and there was something special about how innocent the message of Billy Graham was delivered.

Preaching to thousands he never asked people to donate money which would                                        come back and make them rich.

The power of television to spread the gospel was too good to be true; the enemy had to get involved.

The enemy is always on the look out to distort God’s work and that is what has happened with TV ministries, the enemy’s bait was money and the ministers jumped on it.  Pretty soon anyone could toss up a cheap cable television show and call themselves a minister, the lie was that God wanted you to send the minister your money!  Those who suffered with Christian Depression were left in the dust; it was now all about money and happiness. Give to the minister and you will get a special power to get rich and happy!

The simple message of Billy Graham was now gone and the age of Big money television
Ministers with blow dried hair began. These ministers know nothing about depression, or sadness, they are fat cats who have more than they could ever want but do not envy them, it is a big set up from God!

God is God and He knows ever dime these Ministers are taking from the poor.  How did a gospel for the poor get transformed into the American money making gospel where people will send a millionaire minister their last dollar?  The enemy is tricky and he mixed the true word of God and always added a twist!  The Old Testament law of tithing (giving 10% of your food for the poor) had transformed into given 10% of your income to the minister!)  Few people have caught on to the scam.

The true followers of God who may be having the worst time of their lives with sadness, loneliness and depression are told to simply give more money to the minister, if this were a Hollywood script it would never sell because no one would ever believe it could be true!

These ministers know nothing about Christian depression, sadness or loneliness, they are running a multi-million dollar enterprise; it is all Hollywood.  There is a God and He rules, when He is ready all must answer to what they did to the gospel.
